This rainbow activity I found on a blog, which was originally supposed to be a Rainbow color Toss game, where you toss the plastic lids trying to aim for a certain color, but since all my students are boys I could already see it going wrong… so I changed it up a bit – from a gross motor activity to a fine motor one- and showed them how to match and count using unifix cubes. This game was also intended to use with recycled lids…I didn’t have any but I did have most of the colors in unifix cubes.
I included the Acronym ROYGBIV in the bottom of each color so we could include sound and letter recognition.
I placed color unifix cubes in the center of the table and they first had to match the colors, then I includes some math. They were to get specific amounts of one color and match them on their rainbow. For ex: match 3 reds and count them out loud.
